Who gets recommended for what you sell?

Type what you sell and where. We search Google for “best … in …” the way a customer would, show whose sites are on its first page, read the lists that rank, and show which companies they name and whether yours is one of them.

This shows who the pages ranking on Google today actually name. It gives no score and it is not a record of what any AI assistant answered. AI assistants search the web and read pages like these when they answer. This tool shows which companies those pages name for the search your customers type.

Check a search

This tool runs a live search, so what you type is sent to us and to the services we use to run the search and read the pages. It takes about half a minute.

What you type is sent to us and to the services we use to run the search and read the pages, and kept for 7 days so the same question is not searched twice. We do not keep your brand name. No account, no email.

What ranks on Google today for “best coffee roasters in Dubai”

On Google’s first page for this search

  1. Position 2Lantern Coffee
  2. Position 5Harbour Roast

Also on the first page: 2 social pages, 1 directory, 3 other pages.

Named by the list pages that rank

  1. Marra Coffeenamed in 4 of 5 lists
  2. Kettle Streetnamed in 3 of 5 lists
  3. Sable Beannamed in 2 of 5 lists

If you gave your brand name: “Marra Coffee is named in 4 of the 5 lists we read”, with a link to each, or “We did not find it among the names on these 5 lists”, with a link to every list so you can check. Every name links to the page that lists it.

How it works

  1. 1Say what you sell and whereA short phrase such as coffee roasters, a country and, if you like, a city. Add your brand name if you want to know whether it is named.
  2. 2We run two Google searchesFirst the search a customer would type: best, what you sell, in the place you chose, in your market and language. Then a second search for “top 10” pages of the same kind, to find more list pages. If the second search does not answer in time, we go on with the first.
  3. 3We sort what Google returnsFrom the first search we list the sites on Google's first page whose result looks like a company's own page, with their positions, and count the other kinds of page. We keep the results from both searches that are lists of several companies.
  4. 4We read the lists that rankUp to five of them, only where the site allows automated reading. We take the names from each page's headings and list entries and count them in code.
  5. 5You see who is there and who is namedWho is on Google's first page, the companies the lists name, how many of the lists name each one, and a link to every page. If you gave a brand, whether it is on the first page and whether it is among the names. If fewer than three list pages could be read, we say so and show what we found.

Frequently asked questions

What does this tool do?

You type what you sell and where. We run a Google search for “best” plus what you sell plus the place, and a second search for “top 10” pages of the same kind. You see which companies' own sites are on Google's first page for the first search, with their positions. We also keep the results that are lists of several companies, read up to five of them and count the names written on them. You see which companies those lists name, how many of the lists name each one, and a link to every page.

Is this what ChatGPT or Gemini would say?

No. It is the pages ranking on Google for this search today and the names written on them. AI assistants search the web and read pages like these when they answer, but this is not a record of what any assistant answered, and it gives no score or grade.

Why does it show other companies' names?

Only names that the pages themselves list, each with a link to the page that lists it. We add no opinion about any company, and we do not rank them ourselves: the order is how many of the lists name each one.

What do you keep?

What you type about what you sell, the place and the language is sent to us and to the services we use to run the search and read the pages, and the answer is kept for 7 days so the same question is not searched twice (6 hours when too few lists could be read). We do not keep your brand name. To limit abuse we keep a scrambled, daily-changing code made from your connection and browser for two days; it cannot be turned back into your address.

Why does it say it could not read some lists?

We read a page only when its site's robots.txt allows automated readers, and only over a secure connection. If a site asks us not to read a page, or we cannot confirm that it allows it, or the page is not served over a secure connection, or the site does not let our reader in or does not answer in time, we skip the page and say why. Fewer than three readable list pages is too few to compare, so we say so, and we still show who is on Google's first page and the pages we found.

How do I keep this tool out of my site?

Our reader identifies itself as SearchGenieTool. To keep it out, add “User-agent: SearchGenieTool” and “Disallow: /” to your robots.txt.

Is it free, and is there a limit?

It is free, with no account and no email. To stop it being used to run up costs, each person gets five new checks a day, and the tool pauses for everyone if it has a very busy day. A check someone has already run in the last week is shown again at no cost to you or to us.

Want this measured for your whole brand, not one search?

The free brand audit runs the searches your customers use in your market, reads your site the way a crawler does, and reports what it measured with the evidence attached.
